“I just don’t have the time to do this”…
Have you gotten this objection when sharing your business?
It used to be a HUGE one for me.
Every time a prospect said…
“I don’t have time.”
It would really get under my skin.
Because in my observation…
Most people have time to stare at a screen or binge watch Netflix…
They have time to go out every weekend and party…
They have time to watch every baseball and football game…
But they can’t carve out a few hours a week to pay off their debts, and create more freedom in their life?
This makes no sense.
However, I remember meeting this one guy named James with my friend Maggie.
James is a successful Realtor in the next town over and he was always complaining about how he didn’t have any time freedom.
That his life was consumed with the hustle of his job…
(it’s a pretty competitive market here in our small town with a lot of Realtors and few people that are ready to sell.)
He was in his late 30’s. Married with two kids. And a really sharp guy.
After he took a close look at my biz, he said…
“Maggie and Lucie, I like what you do and I think I could be successful at it… But I have two kids (10 and 13) and although I could use more money and time freedom, I don’t want to spend my evenings, after work, away from them. They’re growing up and this won’t last forever.”
And I don’t remember Maggie’s exact reply.
But it was something about taking a little bit of time now, to give your kids a lot more later.
Including creating more time freedom for yourself, so that you can spend it with your family.
That didn’t move him.
But for a long time, this conversation stuck in my head. (This was about 5 years ago)
I totally get him… Especially now that my own kids have grown up more and see how quickly time passes by.
And at the time, our way of doing things did require quite a bit of time away from the family. Including evenings and a bit of the weekend.
So if someone tells you they don’t have time, the way James told me, sometimes it’s not just to brush you off.
For many that’s a very real and valid concern.
